Wisdom Teeth or third molars are normal removed for a variety of reasons. Each individual patient has different needs and different conditions associated with their wisdom teeth. The purpose of this website is to educate patient’s and family members regarding wisdom teeth.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, often called Oral Surgeons, are specialist that have additional training in the diagnosis, treatment and care of Patient with wisdom teeth. The training consists of 4-7 years of additional training beyond dental school, and includes specialized intensive training removal of Wisdom Teeth, General Anesthesia (Sleep Dentistry), Complications associated with Teeth Infections, Dental Implants, and Facial Trauma. Oral surgeons who have 6-7 years of training also attend Medical School and are Physicians.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons can be board certified indicating they have meet the requirements to be recognized by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ABOMS) as a Diplomate and being Board Certified. These Surgeons have proven knowledge and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of patient’s with Oral Surgery needs.
Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons may also become Fellows of the American College of Surgeons a national organization recognizing physicians who excel in their respective specialty.
